Breandan is an Irish Gaelic name derived from the Old Irish word 'brenainn', which was borrowed from a Welsh word meaning prince. It is the traditional Irish spelling of the name commonly known in English as Brendan. The name was popularized by Saint Brendan the Navigator, a famous 6th-century Irish monk.
