House of affliction or house of figs
Bitania is the Amharic form of the biblical place name Bethany. In the New Testament, Bethany was a village near Jerusalem where Lazarus and his sisters Mary and Martha lived. It is often interpreted as meaning 'house of figs' or 'house of affliction' in its original Hebrew roots.
