Athea is likely a variant of Althea, a name of Greek origin meaning 'healing' or 'wholesome.' In Greek mythology, Althea was the mother of Meleager and was associated with the life-giving properties of the marshmallow plant. It is also occasionally interpreted as a modern variation of Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom.
