Happy, blessed, or the god of Assyria
Ashur has dual roots; in Hebrew, it is a variant of Asher meaning 'happy' or 'blessed'. Historically, it is also the name of the head of the Assyrian pantheon and the ancient capital city of the Assyrian Empire, representing the personification of the state.
