Little rock or handsome; possibly related to the Alan people.
Alania is a feminine elaboration of Alan, which likely stems from the Celtic word for 'little rock' or 'handsome'. It is also the historical name of a medieval kingdom in the Caucasus inhabited by the Alans. In modern usage, it is often chosen as a melodic, rare alternative to Alana or Elena.
About 24 girls were named Alania in 2025.
