Oak grove or ford of the oaks
Derived from the Scottish Gaelic 'Doire', meaning an oak grove, it likely evolved from the surname Edgar. It is also associated with the Old English elements for 'noble' and 'spear', though the Scottish connection to nature is its primary modern association.
