Increasing or surplus; grandfather
Zayde has two distinct etymological paths. In its Arabic-derived form, it is a variant of Zayd, meaning 'to increase' or 'growth.' In a Yiddish context, 'Zayde' is the affectionate word for 'grandfather,' occasionally used as a symbolic name to honor an ancestor or to wish for a long life.
