Ferryman or meadow-dweller
Derived from the Dutch surname Vedder, which can function as an occupational name for a ferryman or a topographic name for someone living near a meadow. In some Germanic contexts, it is also related to the word for 'cousin' or 'relative'. It has gained modern recognition in the US primarily as a tribute to rock icon Eddie Vedder.
