Vanecia is a modern elaboration likely derived from Vanessa, which was coined by Jonathan Swift using the first syllables of Esther Vanhomrigh's name, or as a variant of Venice, the Italian city. In the context of Vanessa, it is associated with a genus of butterflies. As a place-name variant, it evokes the romantic and historic imagery of the Italian 'City of Canals'.
