God of the sea; son of Poseidon
In Greek mythology, Triton is the messenger of the sea and the son of Poseidon and Amphitrite. He is typically depicted as a merman, carrying a conch shell which he blew like a trumpet to calm or raise the waves. The name is also associated with the largest moon of the planet Neptune.
