Derived from the French phrase 'trois monts' meaning three mountains or 'outre mont' meaning beyond the mountain. It originally served as a topographic surname for someone living near a notable peak or range. In an American context, it is famously associated with the Tremont House in Boston, once the most luxurious hotel in the United States.
