Bird abode; gateway to a Shinto shrine
In Japanese culture, a Torii is a traditional gate most commonly found at the entrance of or within a Shinto shrine, where it symbolically marks the transition from the mundane to the sacred. As a name, it is often used in the West as a creative spelling of Tori or Tory, which are typically diminutives of Victoria.
