Will or volition
Thelma is a literary name created by British author Marie Corelli for the Norwegian heroine of her 1887 novel 'Thelma'. While often associated with the Greek word 'thelema' meaning will, it was popularized entirely through fiction before becoming a staple of the early 20th century.
