Tarrence is a variant of the Roman clan name Terentius. While its exact etymology is debated, it is most commonly associated with the Latin word 'terere' meaning to rub or thresh, or 'ternus' meaning soft. It has evolved through English usage as a less common alternative to the classic Terence.
