Good or noble people
The name is derived from the TaΓno people, the indigenous inhabitants of the Caribbean. In their own Arawakan language, the word 'taΓno' was used to identify themselves as 'good' or 'noble' to distinguish from other groups. It is often chosen today to honor Caribbean heritage and indigenous roots.
