Woman from Kynthos or abbreviation of Cynthia/Lucinda
Sindy is a diminutive form of Cynthia, referring to a woman from Mount Kynthos on the island of Delos, or Lucinda, meaning light. While it gained independent usage in the mid-20th century, it is often associated with the British fashion doll introduced in 1963. It remains a rarer alternative to the more common spelling, Cindy.
