A member of the Taíno people of Cuba
The name refers to the Ciboney (or Siboney) people, an indigenous group of the Caribbean. It gained international recognition through the 1929 song 'Siboney' by Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona, which used the name as a symbol of Cuban identity and longing. In a modern context, it is often chosen to honor Cuban heritage or as a rhythmic, melodic rarity.
