Shon is a phonetic variant of the Irish name Sean, which is itself the Irish form of John. It ultimately derives from the Hebrew name Yochanan, meaning 'God is gracious'. While less common than its traditional spelling, it gained some usage in the United States during the mid-to-late 20th century.
