Shaun is an Anglicized phonetic spelling of Seán, which is the Irish form of John. It ultimately derives from the Hebrew name Yochanan, meaning 'Yahweh is gracious'. While it was highly popular in the mid-20th century, it has become a rare choice for modern parents.
