Name
Sem is the Dutch form of Shem, a Hebrew name meaning 'name' or 'renown'. In the Old Testament, Shem was one of the three sons of Noah and is traditionally considered the ancestor of the Semitic peoples. While extremely popular in the Netherlands, it remains rare and distinctive in the United States.
