Rough island or mighty
Rhona is a name with dual origins. In Scotland, it is primarily associated with the Hebridean island of North Rona, derived from the Old Norse for 'rough island'. It is also frequently used as a feminine form of Ronald, which comes from the Old Norse name Ragnvaldr, meaning 'mighty counselor' or 'ruler's advisor'.
