Peja is a diminutive form of the name Petar, the South Slavic version of Peter. It originates from the Greek word 'petros', which was the name given by Jesus to the apostle Simon to symbolize his role as the 'rock' upon which the church would be built. While traditionally masculine in its region of origin, it is occasionally used as a unique unisex option in the United States.
