Pope or father
Derived from the French word 'pape', which ultimately comes from the Latin 'papa'. It was historically used as a nickname for someone who behaved in a pompous manner or as a surname for someone associated with the church. In West Africa, particularly Senegal, it is a very common given name often used as an honorific for a namesake grandfather.
