Oleg is the Slavic form of the Old Norse name Helgi. It was introduced to Eastern Europe by Varangian (Viking) settlers and became a prominent name among the ruling Rurik dynasty of Kievan Rus. It carries the connotation of being dedicated to the gods or spiritually healthy.
