Nyree is a name with two primary etymological paths. It is most commonly recognized as an anglicized form of the Maori name Ngaire, meaning 'flax' or 'marsh plant'. It is also sometimes linked to the Greek name Nyree, a variant of Nyreia, associated with the sea or sea nymphs.
