Friend or ally
Nakota is a name derived from the endonym used by the Nakoda people, a group of Indigenous North Americans. It is linguistically related to the terms Dakota and Lakota, all of which translate to friend or ally in their respective Siouan dialects. While less common than its counterparts, it is used as a name to honor heritage and the concept of unity.
