Derived from the Hebrew name Naphtali, it signifies a sense of wrestling or striving. In the Bible, Naphtali was the son of Jacob and Bilhah and the founder of one of the twelve tribes of Israel. The form Naftuli is a common Yiddish and modern Hebrew variant.
