Myrissa is a rare modern elaboration likely derived from Marissa or the Latin word 'maris' meaning 'of the sea'. It may also be influenced by the fragrant plant name Myrrh or the Greek 'myron' meaning 'perfume'. As a contemporary coinage, it blends the sounds of Melissa and Marissa.
