Mohamud is a Somali variant of the Arabic name Muhammad. It shares the same root meaning of being highly praised or worthy of commendation, reflecting the central importance of the Prophet Muhammad in Islamic culture. While Muhammad is the standard transliteration, Mohamud is a distinct regional spelling common in East Africa.
