Of the sea; bitter; beloved
Mirian is a variant of Miriam, the Hebrew name of the sister of Moses. While its exact etymology is debated, it is most commonly associated with the Hebrew 'marah' meaning bitter, or the Egyptian 'mry' meaning beloved. It has also been linked to the Latin 'stella maris' meaning star of the sea.
