Mersadez is a modern phonetic spelling variant of the Spanish name Mercedes. It refers to the Virgin Mary as 'Maria de las Mercedes' (Mary of Mercies), derived from the Latin word for 'wages' or 'reward', which in Christian theology evolved to mean 'favor' or 'pity'.
