Fame, power, or ruler of the sea
Merrik is a modern variant of Merrick, which has dual roots. It likely stems from the Welsh name Meurig (a form of Maurice) meaning 'dark-skinned' or 'fame-power', or from the Germanic name Almeric. Some interpretations also link it to the Old English elements for 'sea' and 'ruler'.
