Fame-rule or sea-ruler
Merric is a variant of Merrick, which has dual origins. It likely stems from the Germanic name Meuric, meaning 'fame-rule', or the Welsh name Meurig, a cognate of Maurice. It is also occasionally associated with the Old English 'mer' meaning sea.
