A 20th-century blend of Mary and Lynn, or a variant of Marilyn. It combines the Hebrew elements for 'bitter' or 'sea' with the Welsh-derived 'lake' or 'pool'. It was most popular in the mid-1900s as a softer, more phonetic spelling of the classic Hollywood name.
