Merik is a rare name with multiple potential etymological paths. It is often considered a variant of Merrick, which derives from the Welsh name Meurig (a form of Maurice) meaning 'dark-skinned' or 'Moorish', or from the Germanic Amalric meaning 'work-power'. In some contexts, it is associated with the Slavic element 'mer' meaning 'great' or 'famous'.
