Gentle friend or mill friend
Melva is a feminine form of Melvin, likely derived from the Germanic elements 'mal' meaning council or 'mill' and 'win' meaning friend. It gained modest popularity in the early 20th century but has since become a rare vintage choice. Some sources also link it to the Gaelic name Maoilmin, meaning polished or smooth.
