Song thrush
A variant of Mavis, which is derived from the Middle English and Old French word for the song thrush bird. It gained popularity in the late 19th century following the publication of Marie Corelli's novel 'The Sorrows of Satan', though the 'Mayvis' spelling is a rarer, more whimsical variation.
