Lovable or worthy of love
A variant of Mabel, which originated as a medieval contracted form of the Latin name Amabilis. It fell out of common usage for decades but is currently seeing a mild revival as a vintage choice. The 'Maybel' spelling specifically highlights the 'May' prefix, often associated with the month or the hawthorn flower.
