Might in battle
Derived from the Germanic elements 'maht' (might/strength) and 'hild' (battle). It was introduced to England by the Normans and was the name of the wife of William the Conqueror. While the spelling Matilda is more common, this 'h' variant offers a slightly more vintage, European feel.
