Marlyn is a variant of Marilyn, which combines Mary and the Welsh element 'lyn'. It is often associated with the Latin 'stella maris' meaning star of the sea, or the Welsh word for lake. While it peaked in popularity in the mid-20th century, it remains a rare alternative to more common spellings today.
