Marline is a rare variant of Marlene, which is a blend of Maria and Magdalene. It carries the maritime associations of Mary as 'star of the sea' alongside the biblical reference to Mary Magdalene. In some contexts, it is also associated with the Germanic name line meaning 'gentle'.

Marline isn't in the latest US Top 1000. It last peaked at #6,370 in 1992.
