Malisa is a variation of the Greek name Melissa, referring to the lemon balm plant or the honey bee. In Greek mythology, Melissa was a nymph who cared for the infant Zeus. While less common than its parent name, Malisa offers a softer, more phonetic spelling that has seen occasional use in the United States since the mid-20th century.
