Malayah is a modern variant of Malaya, which is the Tagalog word for 'free.' It is also frequently used as a variation of the Arabic name Maliah or Malika, meaning 'queen.' In recent years, it has gained popularity in the US as a rhythmic, multi-syllabic choice similar to Maya or Alayah.
