Lucus is a Latin name that historically refers to a person from Lucania, an ancient region in Southern Italy. It is also closely associated with the Latin word 'lux', meaning light. While often considered a spelling variant of the more common Lucas, it also exists as a distinct Latin word meaning a sacred grove.
