Lorilei is a variant spelling of Lorelei, a name rooted in German folklore. It refers to a steep rock on the bank of the Rhine River where, according to legend, a beautiful siren sang to lure sailors to their doom. The name combines the Middle High German 'luren' (to watch or lurk) and 'lei' (rock).
