Understanding or renowned warrior
Loie is most commonly used as a diminutive of Louise or Lois. As a variant of Louise, it shares the Germanic roots meaning 'renowned warrior.' It gained some independent recognition in the late 19th century due to the influence of modern dance pioneer Loie Fuller.
