Derived from Linus, meaning flax or flaxen-haired
Linux is a modern creation, most famously known as the name of the open-source operating system kernel. It was coined by combining the creator's first name, Linus, with the 'x' from Unix. Etymologically, it shares roots with the Greek name Linus, referring to the flax plant used to make linen.
