Lilibet originated as a family nickname for Queen Elizabeth II, used by those closest to her when she was a child. It is a diminutive of Elizabeth, which is derived from the Hebrew name Elisheva. While historically a private pet name, it gained global recognition and usage as a formal given name after it was chosen by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for their daughter in 2021.
