In Hawaiian, Lei refers to the traditional wreath of flowers or shells given as a symbol of affection. It can also figuratively mean 'child' in the sense of a precious adornment. In Chinese contexts, depending on the characters used, it can mean 'thunder' or 'flower bud'.
