From Laurentum; laurel-crowned
Larenz is a modern American variant of Lawrence or Laurence. It ultimately derives from the Roman surname Laurentius, referring to someone from the ancient city of Laurentum, which was named for its abundance of laurel trees. The laurel was a symbol of victory and honor in the ancient world.
